How to fly DJI Neo - Step by Step Guide for Beginners


The DJI Neo is an advanced drone designed for both beginners and experienced pilots. This guide will walk you through the essentials of unboxing, setup, activation, and initial flight preparations to ensure a seamless experience.


Unboxing the DJI Neo

Upon receiving your DJI Neo, carefully unpack the following items:

  • DJI Neo drone

  • Intelligent Flight Battery

  • USB-C Charger

  • Propeller Guards

  • Propellers (pre-installed)

  • Additional accessories (if included in the Combo package)



Preparing Your DJI Neo

Charging the Battery

Before your first flight, charge and activate the Intelligent Flight Battery:

  1. Connect the USB charger to the USB-C port on the DJI Neo.

  2. Ensure the battery level LEDs illuminate, indicating successful activation.

  3. A full charge takes approximately one hour.




Using the Two-Way Charging Hub

If you have the charging hub:

  1. Insert the batteries into the hub until they click into place.

  2. Connect the hub to a charger via the USB-C port.

  3. With the DJI 65W Portable Charger, the hub can fully charge three batteries in about 60 minutes.




Installing Components

  • Battery: Insert the battery into the drone until you hear a "click." To remove, press the textured part of the battery latch and slide it out.

  • Propeller Guards and Propellers: These come pre-installed. For installation or removal instructions, refer to the video.



Activating the DJI Neo

  1. Download and install the DJI Fly app.

  2. Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to activate your drone.

  3. Ensure your mobile device is connected to the internet during activation.


Firmware Updates

When a firmware update is available:

  1. A prompt will appear in the DJI Fly app.

  2. Follow the instructions to update.

  3. During the update, it's normal for the drone to restart.

  4. After completion, manually restart the drone.



Pre-Flight Checklist

  1. Ensure the battery, propellers, and propeller guards are securely installed.

  2. Verify sufficient battery levels for both the drone and your smartphone.

  3. After powering on, check for any self-diagnostic prompts in the app.
