Register my
Drone?
Unmanned Aircraft Systems
(UAS) Registration
Question:
Do I need to register with the FAA to fly my hobby drone?
Answer:
Yes. If it weighs over .5 lbs
If you fly a drone over .5lbs you must register it with the Federal Aviation Administration's Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Registry. A federal law effective December 21, 2015 requires unmanned aircraft registration, and you are subject to civil and criminal penalties if you do not register. Feb 19th was the official FAA deadline. However if you didnt register yet there is no penatly to do so if you already owned a drone.
